ln my time working as a Trainer at the gym, I have seen many people use the weights and machines as an outlet for stress. I mean throwing, slamming that stuff around and with the poorest of form. I watched a town employee come in on his lunch break, busting with stress, day after day pounding the weights mindlessly. One day I asked him if he would be interested in a training session or 10. I offered him a few tips. I went on to discuss the dangers of working the weights with such poor form and speed. He told me it’s his way of letting off stress. I cautioned him that he was at a high risk for injury with this program and an injury is really stressful! I did my best, I tried. Listen, don’t get me wrong, I’m all for a good workout and it feels amazing after, but I’m not talking about these kinds of workouts. There are other options to SAFELY work off stress. Mind you weight training is great exercise, but for this intensity, a boxing bag may be more in order. With good form! Beating up your body is counter productive. Some people choose alcohol as a stress reliever. Another option that comes with some health risk. YOU need to weigh the risk of your “stress managers” of choice. YOGA is an amazing way to manage stress. Mind #Gainz take real work. A meditative walk outside on your lunch break would be a great choice. Find a healthy way or two to manage your stress, SAFELY and without further damage. Give mediation a shot! You may find you like it.
